I was looking at one of Fords websites and it shows :
For a 1998 E-350 , 6.8L V10 , there are ( 95 and 130 amp alternators listed )
It normally means the alternator is not putting out enough voltage to keep the battery charged and is defective. Can be a loose alternator belt also.
It is in the fuse panel under the driver's side dash; fuse number 9, 30 amp.
in the tank

The voltage regulator is built into the back of the alternator. It can be changed if you are able purchase one through a automotive electrical rebuilding shop. Most places just want to sell you a complete alternator. www.autozone.com Click component location.
