Saint Patrick did not ban any animal. Legend says he drove all the snakes from Ireland. However, scientists say that snakes have never lived in Ireland. The fossil record going back thousands of years shows no snakes. It is thought that the snakes represent the pagan Druid gods of the Irish and, by converting the people to Catholicism, he drove these false gods from Ireland.
