Singapore is home to many plants and animals. Although much of the original wildlife no longer exists there is still a rain forest of several thousand acres in which you can find a variety of terrestrial and marine life. The long-tailed macaque is one of the largest mammals that you can find in Singapore. It is a species of monkey native to Asia. Many of the long-tailed macaques have grown accustomed to the presence of humans. They are more likely to be found around towns instead of deep in the forest. They are considered a nuisance because they sometimes raid human homes.

There is a large population of bats in Singapore. You can find the common fruit bat, pouched tomb bat, lesser false vampire bat, bamboo bats and many other species. Bamboo bats live inside bamboo stems. They slip inside through slits created by beetles. There are greater bamboo bats and lesser bamboo bats, but both species can be found in Singapore.

There are also many frogs and other amphibious creatures in Singapore. The black-eyed litter frog is nocturnal, only coming out at night to feed. Its legs are smaller than those of other frogs so it only takes small hops. The spotted tree frog has an unusual coloration which makes it easy to recognize. Its skin is an orange translucent color and it's covered in white spots. It is also nocturnal.

Many reptiles make their home in Singapore. Most of them are turtles, but there are also many lizards and snakes as well as crocodiles. The maritime gecko is usually found along sea shores. Female geckos can reproduce independently of males.
