Animals that only live in Asia....
lots believe me!
This earth provides a home to countless and millions of animals. 1.5 million species of animals have been identified. More species of insects exist than any other species. And of course there are many more insects that haven't even been discovered yet. The scientists in fact think that there are about 30 million to be discovered yet. We of course might never know the total undiscovered yet. So little is known about the existing creatures. Even lesser is known about the possibilities of the evolving creatures. And a chance to discover the new creatures just might be becoming a distinct dream because their habitats are being destroyed.
Some of the most exquisite and unusual creatures are becoming endangered. These animals play an important role in the ecological balance and the environment. Some of the endangered species in Asia are listed below.
The Chinese Alligators are restricted to the area around the lower Yangzi River in China. They prefer slow-moving fresh-water rivers, ponds, and swamps. The Dugongs are large, gray, streamlined animal with distinctive concave trailing edge tails and nostrils near the top of their heads. These gentle animals are usually found in shallow waters, lying on the seabed for much of the time and rising to surface to breathe every couple of minutes. Northern Fur Seals have larger rear flippers than other species in the family Otariidae, the rear flippers can be rotated underneath the body, allowing the animal to walk on all four flippers. Japanese Macaques are the most northern dwelling primates. Japanese Macaque has dense fur, long whiskers and beard, and a short tail, ranging in color from gray to brown. Red Pandas are the smaller relatives of the Giant Panda. It has soft chestnut-colored fur; a long light and dark striped tail, a short white nose, and dark tear tracks.
One of the most common animals but an endangered one is the Tigers who are the largest living felids. They reach sexual maturity by 3-4 years of age; the female is only receptive for a few days and rears the cubs by herself. The snow leopard lives in the remote mountain regions of Central Asia. It lives at altitudes ranging from 1,800 metres in the winter to 5,500 metres in the summer. The coat of the snow leopard is prized amongst hunters. The elephant is the largest living land mammal. There are only two species, the African and the Indian elephant. Both species live in habitats ranging from thick jungle to savanna. They inhabit all levels of lowland primary rain forest. The males are about 37 inches and weigh 170 pounds. The females are about 31 inches and weigh 81 pounds.
