This ability is not a given on becoming a vampire. Count Dracula in addition to being a vampire was also a high level sorcerer, a graduate of the Scholomance academy. It was this education that permitted him most of his magical abilities.
Your basic vampire is a much more pathetic creature, often malformed and deranged. It takes a very careful 'induction' to become a vampire of decent appearance. Most 'people' on discovering themselves changed into a vampire destroy themselves.

∙ 16y agoFirst there are no such beings as Vampires, though this term may be given to those who have a liking for human blood. If therefore there is no such thing as a Vampire, then no shapeshifting can take place.

∙ 13y agoThe ability to shape-shift is not a 'given' ability with vampires. In reality a vampire is usually a pretty pathetic creature with the ability to steal life-force (by some means) and little else. In fact they are usually malformed in some significant way. The 'Hollywood' version of the vampire represents a very small fraction of vampires indeed.
The ability to shape-shift was a facet introduced by Count Dracula who was (in addition to being a vampire) a high level sorcerer having attended the Scholomance academy in the Carpathian Mountains. Since him near all vampires have been depicted as shape-shifters not due to any accuracy but because its a neat plot device.

∙ 14y agoVampires are incapable of shape-shifting. >_> If you are a wolf or you have the ditinct power of very directly, 'shape-shifting,' then you are capable of doing so. Unless there is a vampire and a wolf/shape-shifter inside your being, the body they are inhabiting is incapable of doing so.
