For centuries numerous animals were introduced to Rangitoto Island but then eliminated. There doesn't seem to be any reason for this elimination. The only animals that continue to be introduced and are failed to be killed are stoats, rabbits, mice, rats, and cats. There are current plans to rid the island of these creatures. People visiting the island are strictly prohibited from bring any form of pet.
