The men had jobs just like they do today (but the technology wasn't as great of course back then.) They worked in companies as executives; were perhaps a mechanic, plumber; drove bus/cab; worked in warehouses, road construction, etc. Women in the 1950's didn't have many choices (a real man's world back then) so you had the choice of being a teacher, nurse, stewardess or a stenographer (secretary.)
