What are the funtions of the f1 -f12 keys on a computer?

The F keys are function keys. They perform different functions in different programs. F1 is used as the "Help" key throughout Microsoft Windows and Office programs. F3 will start a search feature. In the old days (that would be the 1980's and 90's), the function keys would activate menus or other shortcuts.
