The FTSE (Financial Times Stock Exchange) index is a composite of the top companies that are publicly traded (ie anyone can buy and sell shares) in the United Kingdom. This is based on the market price and volume of each company. These index are split as such:

  • FTSE100, meaning the top one hundred companies in terms of their market value
  • FTSE250, meaning the top 250 companies in terms of their market value
  • FTSE ALL SHARE- incorporating all companies in the main market in the UK
