^You don't need an app to get emoji icons. They are all ready a part of the iOS system.

∙ 10y agoGo into Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards > Add New Keyboard. Then find Emoji on the list. You now can acess these emoticons by tapping the button with the world logo in the bottom-left corner of your keyboard.

∙ 11y agoContrary to popular belief, you don't need a third-party app to enable the Emoji ("Emotion People" in Japanese) keyboard in modern versions of the iOS on iPhones and iPod touches.
Simply go to your Settings app and tap on General, Keyboard, Keyboards, Add New Keyboard. Scroll down to the letter E, and you should see "Emoji" listed there.
You can also add it by going to Settings, General, International, and Add New Keyboard and you will still get to the same menu.
Once it is added, you will see a globe icon near your Spacebar that you can use to toggle between your existing language(s) and Emoji. You can either tap on the globe to switch back and forth between your keyboards or hold on the icon to select your chosen keyboard from a list.
The Emoji are sorted out into categories, roughly:
* Smiley faces and General Icons * Nature * Holiday Objects * Transportation, Locations * Symbols and Punctuation
