my mane answer would be that most cardinals eat worm's, seeds, and bug's , in know this because i have studied birds a lot because i thinck they are fascinating.

Actually...

Cardinal's short, broad-based, conical shaped beak are specialized for cracking and probing into seeds, but not for extracting worms from subsurface soil.

Coincidentally, such reliance on seed for its diet also happens to greatly influence whether or not an individual of this particular, "winter bird," species will opt to migrate . . . and, in turn, also influences Cardinal (and other "seed" bird) survivability and life expectancy.

In "abundant seed" years, wintering over can be a successful strategy; in scarce-seed years, birds which opt (or are too old or infirm) to migrate, will often meet their "natural" end by starvation; but as long as such a bird has replaced itself with a chick during the previous warm season, then even a winter death will have been a successful strategy. . . including that of not impeding a migration when lack of fitness makes winter stay-over the only possible (or flock permitted) option.
