This was during the Cold War era when it was believed that the Soviet Union was trying to take over the world, bit by bit, and Cuba, as a communist country, was an ally of the Soviet Union, and hence necessarily an enemy of the US, which did not wish to be taken over by communism. The Bay of Pigs invasion was a counter-revolution, designed to overthrow the communist regime of Fidel Castro. At that time (the 1960's) the US supported all forms of anti-communism. That's how the Cold War was fought.

The Articles of Confederation were designed with a very weak federal government. The states had almost all the power. The national government could not even collect tax! The Tsarist government simply fell apart in the face of this crisis when it could not deal with it.
The Sedition Act tried to curb republican criticism of government policy. It basically stopped people from speaking disrespectfully against the government. The Sedition Act made any activity designed to overthrow a government illegal. The 1918 Sedition Act was passed by the United States Congress was a means of expanding the 1917 Espionage Act. Woodrow Wilson signed it into law.
