Well, one not-so-nice things about Athens was that the women were barely considered better than the slaves, and were not taught to read of write or were in any way educated.

Athens did, however, invent the democracy and some of the most famous philosophers came from there.

Men had to conform to standards, women were kept at home in virtual purdah, getting out only for occasional women,s festivals, slaves were chattels with no rights, warfare was endemic and not optional.

Athens gave no rights or freedom to the women who lived there, they were not even considered citizens! Athens also horribly executed people too!
