Pongo pygmaeus
The orangutans are in the genus Pongo and are split into two species; the Bornean orangutan (Pongo pygmaeus) and the Sumatran orangutan (Pongo abelii).
It depends on the subspecies of orangutan, as well as the sex of the individual, since the species is characterized by sexual dimorphism. On average, Bornean orangutans weigh between 110-220 pounds, while Sumatran orangutans are around 100 pounds.
The two Orangutan species are the Sumatran orangutan (Pongo pygmaeus) and the Bornean orangutan (Pongo abelli)
the scientific name for red hair is "ranga"
The Sumatran species is in the worst ecological position and is listed as critically endangered, while the Bornean species is listed as an endangered species.

The Bornean orangutans physical appearance is stunning. They have a long hair coat witch can either be a reddish-brown, light orangutan, or a brownish color. But it all depends on what kind of orangutan it is. Bornean orangutans have a thin dark reddish-brown coat coloring and have very little facial hair. Their coat is also very smooth. The Bornean orangutan has a broad, figure eight shaped face, small ears, bulging snout and a high forehead. Only on the males so they have large check pads, made up of deposits of fats bound connective tissue. But all orangutan have weak legs but very strong hands and arms. The Sumatran orangutan is different from the Bornean orangutan, even though they look the same. They have a long red/ginger coat and also have long facial hair unlike the Bornean orangutan.
