Some cats are allergic to flea and tick bites, medication (just like some humans have an allergy to penicillin-based medication), and some cats can even develop food Allergies if fed a low quality food that has a high number of grains and cereals in.

Because of the FED1 protein found in dander. People are allergic to cats because when cat's clean themselves the dander becomes airborne. Also people tend to be allergic more to male cats, because they "mark their territory" and urinate more, and the FED1 protein is also found in urine. There is little or no difference between long and short haired cats. Some supposed hypo-allergenic cats are the Sphynx, the Devon Rex, the Cornish Rex, (which are all virtually hairless,) and the Siberian which is very fluffy. Some people who have been hospitalized in the past for cat allergies don't have a problem with the Siberian.

Asking a vet would be the best option for this, and making sure you use the same food and finding out what kind the cat is allergic to and try one without alot of ingredients, more of a natural food would be better.
