Quran allegorically describes seven stages of Mysticism as the seven skies symbolise the seven states of concsiousness. These Stages are:
1. The Faith (Eeman)
Having firm faith in the heart that God is the originator of circumstances is its base.
2. The Worship (Ibadat)
Different physical rituals are symbols of prayer and worship. Worshiping God confirms the presence of invisible Faith.
3. The Knowledge (Hikmah)
Acquisition of knowledge by any means is the third stage and associated with the realm of Angels.
4. The Practice (Al-Amal)
Practice upon your own Knowledge is something very important. Howeuer, many mystics are unable to preoprly practice upon their own-knowledge and thus can not go beyond third-stage.
5. The Trust (Tawakkal)
Having firm trust upon the divine will and not getting worried for the results of your efforts is fifth stage. In this state, the mystic develops a complete trust upon the divine and realizes that the fruit of efforts is in the hands of Almighty alone.
6. The Connection (Maarfat-e-Ilahi)
The mystic is able to understand the divine communication and is able to submit prayers which are mostly accepted.
7. The Enlightenment (Wilayat)
The Mystic is finally admitted in the "enlightened" beings in the court of Divine and is required to teach others what he has learnt in his stages of Mysticism.
