empty kilojoules is the word given to food staffs or drinks that provide you with energy (joules or Kilojouels) but not any vitamins or minerals whatsoever. Put simply it is a food that you eat that has no real nutritional value other that energy.A good example is carbonated soft drinks, the give you loads of sugar, but no mineral or vitamin in that energy. Foods (and I am using the term loosely) such as chocolate bars and potato crisps - you know the ones they have right at eye level in the supermarket aisles.

This can be very confusing. 10 kilocalories is the same as 10,000 Calories.
A kilocalorie is 1000 calories, so 540 calories is 0.054 kilocalories.

Contrary to popular belief.... Vitamins do not contain energy (or kilocalories)
The number of kilocalories in a food indicates the amount of energy in the foods you eat.

Fat has 9 kilocalories per gram. Carbohydrates and protein both have 4 kilocalories per gram, and alcohol has 7 kilocalories per gram.
1 joule = 0.000239005736 kilocalories so multiply 1756000 by 0.000239005736 and you get: 1756000J = 419.7 kilocarlories
