On September 11th, two planes crashed into The WTC (World Trade Centre) in New York City, New York. Terrorists had boarded the planes as passengers and while en route to the original destination they hijacked the planes. At 8:48 a.m. Eastern time, the first plane hit one Tower. Since nothing similar had ever happened on US Soil before, many people initially thought the crash was a tragic accident. But, when a second plane crashed into the South Tower at 9:03am, the US knew it was the result of terrorism. In about 2 Hours, The South Tower (The second tower that was hit) then collapsed, followed very quickly by the North Tower.

At the same time, terrorists had hijacked a plane and crashed it into the Pentagon. As well, terrorists had hijacked another plane, turned it around (actually made several "looping" circles going north over Ohio) and headed toward an unknown Eastern US destination. Other passengers called loved ones and the Airlines number from in-flight telephones and some were told about the events in New York City. So those passengers decided to storm the flight deck and try to re-gain control of the plane. Unfortunately, this airline crashed in a field in semi-rural Pennsylvania; fortunately, those passengers prevented the plane from heading into another major city. Officials have speculated that this plane might have been headed to crash into the White House.

• . All the airplanes were full-size commercial planes.
• All the planes had been re-fueled so there was a full load of jet fuel on board.
• All the terrorists shared Muslim-radical beliefs.
• Everyone on board all of the planes died from impact or the resulting explosion. In the Pennsylvania field, little was left of the aircraft of any size-- it disintegrated on impact. There were no full bodies to collect.
• Thousands of people working at or near The World Trade center were killed, along with Firefighter and Police rescuers.
• Some members of the military and Civil Service were killed at the Pentagon.
• One Person Said "I will never forget when I was going down (the stairs), and (saw) the Firemen (who) were going up" -- the rescuers were willing to risk their lives to reach the injured.
• Immediately after the first tower was struck, automated systems in the World Trade Center announced that the "building is secure". When workers called the Security command center, workers were told they could safely remain at their desks. This error may have cost people their lives because instead of evacuating the building, people stayed put.
• People trapped right above or below the floors hit by the first plane --sadly and horrifically -- decided to jump just to get away from the flames and heat. Those pictures, now posted everywhere, show black outstretched forms in mid air that look strangely like miniature birds with a background of glass windows. Each of those bird-appearing figures is a person about to die and, still, every time I see one of those pictures I can't imagine the horror those people must have experienced.
• By the time the second plane hit, elevator shafts were doused with jet fuel. Both buildings were afire and soon collapsed.
• This was the first civil "casualties" on US soil since World War II (at Pearl Harbor) for any type of "conflict". In both cases, though, American Leaders may have ignored the intelligence data they had gathered that might have prevented the attacks. This is not proven.
• Many "conspiracy theories" have arisen about the World Trade Center, with some people believing that a bomb or explosives brought down the towers. But, experts state that jet fuel burning at extremely high temps after a crash could weaken the metal supports of the building and cause each floor to collapse and pancake to the next floor down. Before it ever hit the ground, though, pressure and forces pulverized most of the structure.
• People who lived through the attacks will forever have horrific images etched into their minds from seeing the deaths and destruction. Many feared they would not live or get out.
• The cloud caused by the collapse of the buildings contained numerous particles of uncertain toxins. Many rescuers and NYC residents have been ill from breathing in those particles.
• Sept. 11th was one of the saddest days in US History. It also changed our world dramatically. New anti-terrorism measures were immediately started at airports worldwide. These measures have continued to expand, and some say, these measures continue to erode citizens' rights. As well, since terrorists channeled money through bank accounts to pay for "flight lessons" in the SW, the government instituted an Act that severely restricts and guides how people can open bank accounts, etc. For example, before any person could open an account "for" someone else's benefit-- such as a grandmother opening accounts for her grandchildren as a delayed surprise to be given later. Today, though, no one can open an account without the other person's social security number plus a picture ID, etc. The Patriot Act under George Bush (the son) has had far-reaching effects in narrowing US freedoms.
