Thomas Jefferson died fifty years after the signing of the Declaration of Independence. He died on the same day as John Adams, the second President of the United States of America. They were originally friends but became all but bitter political advesaries; they lived fairly close to each other; it's said that when one died, the other learned about it and more or less decided that he could die, also. Thomas Jefferson was fundamentally responsible for the facts in Marbury v. Madison, 5 U.S. (1 Cranch) 137 (1803); the case all but created the power of the federal judiciary.
