Rhinos are an endangered species, according to the International Union of Conservation for Nature, or the IUCN Red List. The Black Rhino is listed as "critically endangered", and the White Rhino is listed as "near threatened", while the subspecies, the Northern White Rhino is listed as "critically endangered" also. Poaching the Rhino to meet the demand of the "International Rhino Horn Trade" is the major threat this species faces. The Rhino horn is prized for, use in the so-called traditional Chinese Medicines, and craving the horn into "ceremonial" dagger handles worn by many young men in Middle Eastern countries as a status symbol.
