The Wii U supports Wii U games as well as Wii games, though it does not support GameCube games (unless released as a Virtual Console). The Nintendo Wii U has access to the Nintendo eShop which allows you to buy games online including some games released for previous Nintendo consoles (SNES, N64, GBA).
The Wii U currently does not support GameCube controllers but it was announced that Nintendo plans to create an adaptor for this controller.
