Preserver of the universe, a loving and forgiving figure who brings salvation. Four arms in which he holds a conch shell, a discus, a lotus and a mace. His vehicle is a divine eagle. Vishnu has many avatars, incarnation or manifestation of a deity in human form, and appears on earth in the form of an animal or human to conquer evil. Hindus believe that one of his incarnations was of Siddartha Gautama, the founder of Buddhism. His companion is Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, happiness and good fortune. She is often depicted rewarding worshippers with gold.

FACTS ABOUT VISHNUThe above answer is about beliefs about Vishnu and not facts.

Facts must be directly compatible with science.

The knowledge which makes Hinduism compatible with science is called Brahmajnana.

BRAHMAN - THE GOD OF VISHNU:

1. All the skeletal muscles of our body can isometrically contract (harden) and relax (soften) as though it were a single skeletal muscle. In Hinduism, this Unified Skeletal Muscle is called as Purusha/ Brahman.

2. The Unified Skeletal Muscle is isometrically made of seven components i.e. if it contracts towards seven points along the midline in the front of our body, it gives an impression that Purusha is made of seven Purushas. (Rig Veda 1.10.90 - 15 and Manu Smriti 1.19 and 1.20).

FACTS ABOUTVISHNU:

1. If the Purusha/ USM isometrically contracts towards the abdomen the force generated is what we call Vishnu.

2. The Vishnu force is sinusoidal or wave like. It is for this reason that Vishnu maintains status quo and is known as preserver.

3. The force is semi voluntary i.e. 50% Involuntary and 50% voluntary. The presence of two forces is symbolized by two pairs of hands, which only Vishnu and no other Hindu god, must have.

4. The 50% voluntary force is sandwiched between two layers of involuntary force. This 50% voluntary force anatomically corresponds to the navel. It is for this reason that Brahma, who symbolizes this 50% voluntary force, originates from Vishnu's navel.

5. Vishnu makes our life flexible like water, for which reason he is blue colored and holds a conch is that found only in water.

6. The Sinusoidal Vishnu force has a frequency and an amplitude. The frequency is symbolized by Chakra and the amplitude by the Mace.

7. Vishnu is 50% Voluntary. Just like the lotus lies above water, the Voluntary component enables us to execute activities independent of our status. It is for this reason that Vishnu holds a lotus in his hand.

8. In Hinduism there are seven basic gods.

They are,

1. Indra

2. Shakti

3. Brahma

4. Vishnu

5. Shiva

6. Shani

7. Yama.

9. Being central, Vishnu enables us to use any of the seven forces and this ability of Vishnu is symbolized by the seven headed serpent on which he lies.

His ability to give a bird's eye view of our entire life is symbolized by Garuda, the bird on which vishnu travels.

10. All the other six gods are, in fact, components of the semi voluntary force.

Thus, for example

1. Shiva represents the positive half of Vishnu and therefore more materialistic than Vishnu

2. Brahma represents the negative half of Vishnu and thus creative but can't lead to actions.

11. Since Vishnu has components of all the seven basic Hindu gods he can give a state similar to Moksha. However, this is not real Moksha because Vishnu is 50% manual/ voluntary.

Brahman, the supreme Hindu god, gives 100% freedom because it is 100% involuntary/ automatic.
