With years of experience in child care, eating healthy seems to be a problem amoung many children. This is a reflection of the parents. Preventitive steps in your childs first few stages of life can be taken to improve their eating habits in the future.

if still on baby food: make sure you always feed the baby Veggie first!!!!! then fruit!!!... if you give the fruit first the child will be expecting the sweetness in the veggie and when it is not found, they will reject it. If maybe your hearing this a little too late...start putting less and less fruit mixed into the veggie to try and reverse the effect.

Toddlers: Colors, shapes and games!.. use cookie cutters to shape sandwhiches fruits and veggies.. have your child cook with you. pick up a childrens cook book or look online for some fun ideas...there are MILLIONS for every food.

a variety is key. Get excited about your child doing a good job!... and let your child see YOU enjoying the healty food as well.

1. Be a role model- Children watch what their parents eat and often follow in their habits.

2. Get them involved- My niece loves to bake with my sister and they make healthy oatmeal and cranberry cookies or chop vegetables for salad.

3. Teach them about why it is important to eat healthy

4. Make healthy snacks available- if all they have are healthy options they will eat them

When you go grocery shopping focus on putting foods that are full of vitamins and minerals for instance lettuce, tomatoes, carrots and other salad veggies, whole wheat bread, oatmeal, peanut butter into your cart. Keep your shopping cart free from sweets, crackers, potatoes chips, processed foods in a box or frozen as well. Some frozen veggies are okay. Eat more raw foods, baked potatoes, yams, proteins (chicken, fish, beef, turkey etc) but cook it yourself at home. Also, treat yourself to dinner out once a week to help you get through the week until you get used to this new way of healthier eating. Keep healthy snacks ready to grab when you are hungry. If you don't bring the cookies, candy, chips home it will be easier eat healthy foods. Also, soda is not a healthy drink to put in your body it's full of sugar read the labels before you buy.
