Eating lots of unhealthy food and not exercising much.

For example if you eat healthy and exercise lots you could be 5 foot tall and weigh 90 pounds. But if you stopped the exercise and ate an extra 2 chocolate bars a day you will get heavier because the energy from the chocolate isn't being used up so turns into soft, wobbly fat.

For me, fat builds up on my belly thighs and hips because I don't do much sport but eat lots

Eating protein and some carbohydrates, and lifting weights. Although before they hit adolescence, they may be lean and wiry, which is healthy.
