Kegal exercises are simple movements designed to tone the muscles in the vaginal and perineal area. It will strengthen them in preparation for delivery, allow for better stimulation and orgasms during sex, and also tone those muscles down there.

Doing Kegal's faithfully may also help avoid an episiotomy or a bad tear. It can aid in recovery postpartum, making sex more enjoyable, and help to prevent incontinence. This exercise is one that every woman can perform and benefit from, anytime or anywhere. No one will even see you doing it!

To do Kegals, firmly tense the muscles around your vagina and anus. To be sure you are using the right muscles, try stopping the flow of urine midstream when you're using the toilet. If you stop it, then you're using the right muscles. Hold the tension for as long as you can, working up to 8 to 10 seconds, then slowly release the muscles and relax. Work up to 3 sets of 10 to 20 during the day.

You can also do 3 sets of quick Kegals: count rapidly to 10 or 20, contracting or relaxing the pelvis muscles at each count. You can do Kegals either sitting, laying down, or standing. They can be done at anytime before, during, or after (although you may not feel it directly after delivery) pregnancy.
