Because in some of those nations where the changes are happening, people are putting pressure on the authoritarian government to step down. For example the wave of protests that happend early this year in countries such as Egypt, Tunisia and now Libya, respectively. In most cases there are vast divisions between the rich and poor and that causes people to revolt. I also think other democratic countries put pressure on the authoritarian regimes to adopt democratic principles. For example there are certain requirements that a country needs to satisfy to get a help from the World Bank and/or IMF, and these requirements are mostly just asking the country to be democratic.
