What can tobacco do to your mental health?

It can make you an addict. Tobacco is addictive. Cigarettes
contain nicotine - a powerfully addictive substance. When a person
smokes, a dose of nicotine reaches the brain within about 10
seconds. Regular doses of nicotine lead to changes in the brain,
which then lead to nicotine withdrawal symptoms when the supply of
nicotine decreases.

How does nicotine gum help people give up smoking?

People are addicted to smoking because they are addicted to the
nicotine in the cigarettes. Nicotine gum helps you give up smoking
because the gum contains nicotine. When you chew the gum, the
nicotine is absorbed through your mouth. This gives you a nicotine
fix that will help reduce withdrawal symptoms when you quit
smoking.

What are withdrawal symptoms from nicotine?

There are no real physical withdrawal symptoms from nicotine
itself. All withdrawal is mental. Due to the mental dependency,
people can develop physical withdrawal. If you know someone who is
planning on quitting, I recommend Allen Carr's system. It helped me
quit after smoking for three years at a pack a day. It is not
something that requires discipline, or determination, no pills, no
patches, none of that crap. Just read it and you will see how easy
it really is to quit smoking...Just read his bio on wikipedia and
make sure you spell his name right :)

How long does marijuana withdrawal last?

Marijuana withdrawal differs from person to person and depends
much on the psychological dependence of the person. Like quitting
nicotine, the first day is relatively undifficult, but the
withdrawal symptoms generally peak around the 3rd day and then
decline from there. Physically, the THC stays in a person's fat
cells for several months, although withdrawal symptoms should have
long faded by then.
How can nicotine withdrawal side effects be minimized?

There are several forms of nicotine withdrawal symptoms, for
example nicotine cravings, frustration, anxiety, depression and
weight gain. These symptoms may vary from individual and the
withdrawal would usually subside after the first week. To minimize
nicotine cravings, one could always chew on gum or use an
electronic cigarette, also known as an e-cigarette. As for weight
gain, it is perfectly normal, as smoking causes one's appetite to
decrease due to the disturbance of the taste buds, making foods
tasteless. Therefore, after a few days of quitting smoke, one can
feel the differences and the appetite returns, which cause the
weight gain.
