The seasons of Australia are opposite to those in the US because of their locations on earth. Australia is located in the southern hemisphere whilst America is in the northern hemisphere. So when it is summer in the US (because the northern hemisphere is tilted towards the sun, therefore closer), it must be winter in Australia (because the southern hemisphere is tilted away from the sun, therefore further from the sun).
That the things that unite us as Australians are always more important and more substantial than the things that might from time to time divide us.
