The lack of dedicated mentorship and specified practical training objectives in many company based programs leading to registration as a professional engineer may render the registration process difficult, too tedious and unattractive to most graduates. Some companies may be reluctant to entrust neccessary tasks (even under mentoring) to potential professionals, making the program very lengthy and thus, tedious.

Some countries and/ or companies may seem to undermine the stature of engineering qualifications , giving engineer titles to non graduates of engineering etc. As a result, most people misunderstand and undervalue the identity of engineering discipline. In such cases, being a professional may not seem unique to most people.

When no special recognition and or/ trust is given to professional engineers by employing companies, people may not see the use to register. When the reputation of most registered engineers in a certain country or most popular company is destroyed, and the particular council is constantly being brought into disrepute, the community and potential graduates may back off from encouraging professional engineering registration.
