A number of early Washington quarters are considered to be moderately rare.

The key dates are 1932-D and 1932-S, with retail values in the range of several hundred dollars even in moderately worn condition.

Most other dates are not scarce in circulated condition, but a few are significant in AU or UNC, including Denver issues from 1934, 1935, and 1936.

There's a list of specific prices at the Related Link below.

How much is a silver quarter worth from 1961?

1961 is not a rare date for Washington quarters. If it has any wear, the value is about $5.00 just for the silver.

Are pre 1965 quarters rare?

They aren't rare, they are, however 90% silver and worth a bit over $5 each at the time of writing in silver content alone. Many, many, many, pre-1965 quarters were made but simply the fact they were made out of silver is what makes them valuable. Now, there are, of course, some rare years of silver quarters, but there are also very common dates (like 1964).

What is the value of a 1944 silver quarter?

U.S. quarters, starting from 1932, are called "Washington quarters." Washington quarters dated from 1932 to 1964 are made with 90% silver and 10% copper, and weigh 6.25 grams. The value of the metals depends on the market price of silver and copper. As of October 5, 2007, the value of the silver in a pre-1964 Washington quarter is $2.41 (market price of silver $13.39 per ounce) and the value of the copper in a pre-1964 Washington quarter is about a half of a cent, giving the total value of a pre-1964 Washington quarter about $2.42. If the coin is rare, and/or is in mint like condition, it could be worth significantly more. None of the 1944 Washington quarters (Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Denver mints) are rare, but if the coin is in mint state, it would be worth about $35.

Is a 1951 quarter rare?

No. Quarters have been minted in large numbers almost every year following WWII. The major value of Washington quarters from about 1940 to 1964 is due to the fact that they were struck in 90% silver. There's more information at the Related Question.

What is the value of a 1949 S Washington quarter?

There were no 1949-S Washington Quarters minted! If you have one it would either be super rare or (most likely) a counterfeit! "The Silver Series of Washington Quarters spans from 1932 to 1964; during many years in the series it will appear that certain mints did not mint Washington Quarters for that year. No known examples of quarters were made in 1933, San Francisco abstained in 1934 and 1949, and stopped after 1955, until it resumed in 1968 by way of making proofs." -Wikipedia K. Are there any rare 1944 quarters and what is it made of?

1944 is considered to be a common date for Washington quarters. Like all quarters up to 1964 they were made of an alloy of 90% silver and 10% copper. In circulated condition their value is pretty much determined by the current price of silver. As of 01/2009 average retail prices are in the $3 range. The most valuable 1944 quarter has a D mint mark and is still very common. Uncirculated ones can sell for about $15, not enough to pay the mortgage.
