timing belt maint.one way to know that timing belt is wearing out is the timing jumps causing engine to run rough, including backfires, the best thing any owner shoud do is look in owners manual, under preventive maintenence it normally tells you at what milage intervals the belt should be changed at. if you have bought a used car and don't know for sure if vehicle has been maintained properly, assume that it hasn't and have the timing belt changed, as it is a lot cheaper to change a belt as proposed to replacing engine due to damage caused by belt breaking. if you don't have owners manual, you can call your dealer's service dept and they can tell you, or better yet can help you replace missing manual. good luck to you and happy motoring, Doug Night would be considered a noun.
