Purple-shelled clams, called cherrystone clams or mercenaries, are a species of clam commonly found along the east coast. Small cherrystone clams start out as white when small, but turn purple as they grow larger.
you find many things like crabs, shrimp, turtles, fish, clams, and jellyfish and so on.
The reason you find shells in creeks is beacause there once could have been an ocean there.

Find clams at low tide.....look for a small breathing hole, it kind of looks like a tiny u shaped hole in the sand.....bring a strong stiff garden rake and rake the sand until you find a hit...you will be suprised at how many clams you can find. Also look for small clams with their back ends sticking out stuck in the sand, usually they are viable. You can find them near creeks and ponds, or in your backyard.
