What are some advances in computer software within the past ten years?

One of the biggest advances is the way that data--large quantities of data--can be saved to CDs, larger harddrives, networks and on the internet. Earlier storage was limited to 144kb (floppies). Most software was shipped on floppies (a tax program I worked with came with 8 or 9 floppies!), and failure of one meant that you had to wait for a snail mail replacement.
Storage seems like a weird place to start, but now you can use programs with more capabilities and save more detailed data.
Software now is able to accommodate multi-user and network needs of large organizations since the program doesn't need to be loaded on each individual machine.
