The latter might have been in much better condition had not a moronic French artillery officer with the Venetian attack on Athens in 1687 CE not tried to demonstrate his marksmanship and lobbed an artillery shell through the roof of the temple - it landed inside on a Turkish gunpowder magazine, and the resultant explosion collapsed the roof of the temple.
And the caryatid statues in front of the Erechtheion were surviving nicely until the Greeks left then exposed fifty years ago to the acid rain in the city while they argued endlessly over how to preserve them, and watched the acid burn their marble faces away.
