The biggest current issue being faced by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (commonly called the "Mormon" church) and it's members is being mis-represented by the media. Many media outlets confuse the Church with small offshoot sects that are not affiliated with the Church. Other media outlets don't accurately portray church doctrines and beliefs. These misrepresentations range from small scale local news reports to large scale movies and television shows. This can be very offensive to many Mormons, who spend a lot of time and effort trying to correct the misunderstandings and misrepresentations of themselves.
Another issue they face is hatred and discrimination by other groups. Pro-gay marriage activists have been protesting in front of buildings and locations that Mormons consider sacred and holy. Vandalism by various groups has caused extensive damage to many church meetinghouses. Evangelical Christians picket at Church headquarters in Salt Lake City, and many offer classes and programs aimed at convincing Mormons about the error of their ways.
Individual members encounter many with harsh feelings against them for their religious beliefs.
Of course everyone has their own concerns, but here are some that are common among many members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church):
First, misrepresentation and misunderstanding by others. Media reports about Mormons are frequently inaccurate, and the rumors about Mormons passed on by individuals are even more untrue. Studies have shown that most people, even in America, know little or nothing about Mormons. Mormons want people to know who and what they are - they care less about conversion and more about clarifying and correcting false information that is being spread about them. The Church has lauched a media campaign in several large cities with the goal of dispelling some of the most commonly believed myths.
Second, the growing influence of the world. Many Mormons agree that today's culture and society is becoming more immoral than it has been in a very long time, or perhaps ever. They are concerned about the lack of traditional Biblical values in today's world, especially when it comes to strong families and sexual purity. However, many Mormons also agree that this is a sign that the Second Coming of Jesus Christ is drawing nearer, and although they don't support the direction society is going, they are excited to see Biblical prophecy unfold.
Third, there seems to be a growing divide between conservative Mormons and liberal Mormons. This is attributed to and tied in with the second point. Conservative Mormons see their fellow Mormons justifying and following the liberal morals of the world. Liberal Mormons see their conservative brethren as being old fashioned and unwilling to change with the times. There are a growing faction of Mormons who are fighting for such things as women in the priesthood and acceptance of homosexual relationships, which the conservatives believe is strictly against The Bible.
