The disadvantages are: 1) Judge is only one person, so if you get on his/her bad side...it is impossible to outvote him or her. 2) A judge is trained to see the legal issues and look through the extraneous stuff. Therefore, if your client has a weak case it is better to have a jury, as you can appeal to more "extraneous stuff" (like emotion) where a judge is unlikely to to swayed by that.
