Applying turn ratio to a transformer is to step up or step down voltage in an AC system. If you apply a 120V/60Hz (US outlet) to a 3:1 tranformer, you will output a 40V/60Hz signal as the primary side (input) has 3 times the turns (windings) as the secondary (output). From the law of conservation of energy, the secondary side (40V) will now have 3 times the current than the input.

120V x 3A = 360 Watts

40V x 9A = 360 Watts

Example: 40V AC Motor with 9A has more torque than a 120V AC Motor with 3 Amps as current is porportional to torque. Voltage is porportional to speed.

What are the principles of voltage reduction in auto transformer?

A: Transformers are designed with a turn ratio of 1:xxx the ratio can be 1.001 for instance then 1 volt input will transform into 1milli volt out that is the basics

How Calculate turn ratio on step up transformers?

For example: if the primery winding on the transformer were 250 turns and the 1250 turns on the secondary, what is the turn ratio? Well what you do is you take 1250 divide that by 250 will give you 5. So the answer would be 1:5 since 1 will be on the top of the 250 and the 5 would be on the top of the 1250. IN ALL STEP UP TRANSFORMERS HAVING A TURNS RATIO MORE THAN ONE...BECAUSE IT STEPS UP VOLTAGE.

Does a transformer have two coils if yes how is the voltage calculated?

the most basic transformers have at least two coils, a primary and a secondary. A transformers nameplate will provide you with the max allowed voltage and current, as well as a voltage per turn ratio. for example a step down transformer could have a primary of 120 volts and a secondary of 24 volts this would give you a ratio of 5:1.

What year will there be a transformers 4?

There is a HUGE possibility then again there isn't. The press has word that Shia Lebouf may not be coming back, but is Transformers: Dark of the Moon is a BiG money-making turn out why wouldn't he? Also, Micheal Bay says he wants to slow down for a moment and see the turn out of Transformers 3 then he will go on to decide whether or not to continue with the Transformers sequel. BTW : Transformers 3 is a GREAT movie GOT to see it because I would loveee to have another twist and turn to it in the fourth one soo it is up to us people lets get a move on ! :D
