  • There are so many types of flu that they can last for 2 days to 10 days or sometimes longer. If it lasts for more than four days please see your doctor as there may be complications or it may not be the flu at all and something else causing this. Some medications can make you feel like you are fighting off a flu bug.
  • I am currently at day 10 of my flu. I have been to see Doctors but to no avail. The doctor I saw had it last for 6 days, but he said that it can last much longer. I am in so much pain and discomfort still and have spiking temperatures as well. If there's one thing that I can suggest - it's get a flu vaccination. I wish I had but it's too late for me. I am hoping that the virus finally disappears this weekend.
  • Here are some over the counter remedies to help ease temperatures and aches and pains: Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen. Acetaminophen (Tylenol) and ibuprofen (Advil) reduce fever and relieve muscle ache and headaches. Aspirin use is discouraged for viral illnesses due to risk of Reye's Syndrome. Cough Medicine. There are two types of cough medicines: expectorants and suppressants. Expectorants loosen congestion in the respiratory tract. Suppressants reduce the frequency of coughing. Decongestants. Decongestants containing pseudo ephedrine (Sudafed) or phenylpropanolamine relieve sinus congestion. Side effects may include insomnia and nervousness. You can also phone a pharmacist at any drug store and ask what the best over the counter medication is for your symptoms. If your chest feels tight, throat sore and temperature starts to rise then go to the ER or a clinic to be check out to be sure it has not turned into Bronchitis or Pneumonia.
  • I have had the flu for about 3 days now and over the course I had a fever and I have very bad diarrhea. I don't know exactly what this illness is but I have missed four days of school. I looked up this sickness and it says the most the flu should last for is two weeks. If it goes over two weeks I would suggest going to the ER.
  • I have had the flu for two days. I am not getting anybetter, I am getting worse! I have not thrown up but I have filled like I was going to throw up. I have pills for my nausea, they help a lot.
  • This is my third day at home and I am finally getting better. The fever lasted for about 48 hours. Doc said stay home when you are free from fever for 24 hours. Guess I'll be back to work tomorrow.
  • I've had the flu last two days before. Right now I'm sitting at home with another case (albeit not as bad). So the flu doesn't always last forever. Not to sound like a broken record, but rest is what your body needs. People that hop up on medication so they can get to school or work are doing nothing but putting EVERYONE else they come in contact with into the same situation. Do everyone else a favor and stay home.
  • SUDAFED PE (the tablet forms) has worked for me when dealing with the flu. If you're not on a budget the AM/PM pills works but the regular pills works too. It helps on muscle aches as well as headaches. At night PM version helps block histamines so you won't be oozing off mucus or sneezing; it helps you sleep better; oh, yea, it helps with the coughing.
  • It depends on how weak your immune system is.My mothers cure for the flu was to wash the bug out, drink water and juice constantly and if you do not have the diarrhea take a laxative.
