Yes, there are genealogy websites that provide information for free and I'll give you a few examples below. Also, check with your LDS Family History Center or public library. They may provide no-cost access to some subscription genealogy websites if you visit their facilities. www.familysearch.org www.rootsweb.com http://www.freebmd.org.uk/ The GenWeb sites (do a search for a county, state and "genweb") I suppose it depends on what you are researching and what you are trying to do. Are you just starting your research? It can make a difference if you are searching US 19th century, Ireland 18th century, American Indian, African American, and so on. At some point it may be beneficial if you were to subscribe to something like Ancestry.com ( http://ancestry.com/ ) -- they do have a free 14 day trial offer. You just have to weigh the cost of the subscription against the benefits of accessing certain databases online. Perhaps it's more economical, or efficient, right now than taking vacation and incurring the expenses of going to the US National Archives in Washington DC, or the LDS library in Salt Lake City, for example. There are free things available - for example searching the US Social Security Death Index ( http://www.cyndislist.com/socsec.htm ) or the Personal Ancestral File (PAF) is a free genealogy and family history program ( http://www.familysearch.org ); as well as the sites mentioned in the previous answer. There are also volunteer projects that might be helpful to you. There re several referenced on the RootsWeb home page. Assuming you are conducting some US research, you may already know that there are regional US National Archives with free access, perhaps one is close to where you live. Also some public libraries have free access to genealogical materials. Depending on where and when you are researching, there may be a wealth of information freely available.

The US GenWeb Project is free and does not require a LogIn or Registration.

Other genealogy websites that are free require a LogIn or Registration such as Family Search.

Other genealogy websites such as Mocavo require a LogIn or Registration, but access to some of its information is free while other areas require a paid membership.

The largest free genealogy website in the United States is FamilySearch.org. As of October 2013, it has records covering about three billion people, and new records are being added daily. It's owned by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, but you don't have to be a member of that church (or any church) to use it.

What is the best free Genealogy site?

Kindred Konnections is a good site for that. I do transcribing for them and earn 1 free hour with them and you can do as many as you want. To get into the membership section you have to pay but if you do the transcribing(census pages, typing out names)you can use that 9one of your hours) to get into the paid section and search.

Where can one find a website about Mormon genealogy?

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) operates familysearch.org. This is considered by many to be one of the leading free genealogy sites. The Church also operates hundreds of free "Family History Centers" where anyone is welcome to recieve free assistance with their family history, as well as have access to familysearch.org, the Church's extensive Family History Library, and several subscription-based genealogy sites (such as ancestry.com) free of charge. Both familysearch.org and the Family History Centers are open to the public, no affiliation with the Mormon church is required. Check out the "Related Links" below to visit familysearch.org, to find a free Family History Center near you, or learn about why Mormons are so interested in genealogy.

Is there any way you can search your family tree online without having to sign up for anything?

The few sites that I tried eventually charge. I recently heard of Ellis Island having a site and library. Also for those interested in the Holocust Memorial has a listing of names.

What web-sites can help me with my genealogy research?

Rootsweb.com is a good place to start, They have a lot of information for family names and different areas of the country. Not only do they have info on the web, you can join a mailing list. Best of all, it's free. Most people will not find their family history all organized, written up and waiting for them anywhere. You will probably have to create your family history by gathering information and organizing it into a chart or narrative. Much of that can be done on line, but you will also want to talk to relatives, use old family photos, and perhaps even visit archives or libraries that have records not available online.

Why do most genealogy search sites end up charging a fee for regular use?

Most genealogy search sites charge a fee for regular use in order to cover the cost of maintaining and constantly updating their databases. These sites invest significant resources in collecting and organizing vast amounts of historical records and genealogical data, which requires ongoing efforts and expenses. Charging fees allows them to sustain their operations, improve the quality of their services, and provide a better user experience for their customers.

In runescape how do you get free membership?

There is no "legal" way of getting free membership. It is not exactly against the rules, but could. Usually, sites that claim to provide you with a free membership will scam you. Your credit card information and your account information would be gone. Instead of trying to get free membership, you can buy the cards yourself.
