Disgaea, Tactics Ogre, and a few others.
Different from the conventional Final fantasy games. It uses a battle system not unlike that of Tactics Ogre and it's more strategy based than the other Final Fantasies. It's storyline is also distinctly different in terms of themes and general direction, though, as expected, there are recurring motifs. It's very militaristic overall which aptly suits the tactics battle system. Not for everyone, even a die-hard Final Fantasy fans may not enjoy it, though personally, it is my favorite in the series because of it's more realistic, mature and in-depth storyline (a complete contrast to Final Fantasy Tactics: Advance, a different game entirely)

III, Tactics, V. that's it really, except for CC and maybe some of the spin-offs. Signed, Phoenix

"ff12" most typically refers to the video game, Final Fantasy 12. The game is the 12th installment in the Final Fantasy series and featured an entirely different battle system from previous titles.
The Romans invented a number system so they would have a way of counting. They had their own empire, remember, so they liked to be original in everything. Their language, their battle tactics, and yes, their numbers.
its like a fantasy
It's a matter of opinion in the end but if you like turn-base battle system than Final Fantasy X and X-2 ( both on the PS2 ) are great. While if you like a heavy story-line with an action styled battle system than Kingdom Hearts is the way to go with the titles on various platforms ( e.g DS, PS2, etc. ). While if your into online RPGs than i would say World of War Craft. Or if you own a DS or a GB or a GBA than you may want to play a Pokemon game. Also Final Fantasy 13 is a great game for the Xbox 360 and the PS3 as it offers some of the best graphics and a strong story line. If you love side quest and tonnes of hours to play than Final Fantasy Tactics A-2 is great ( DS ) game. Fable games are also interesting as every move every decision can change the story.
PSP
its on nes
The ones that I started with, and the best ones to me so far, Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy X, and Final Fantasy XII. But the thing about the games is that the battle style is different. FF VII has a team vs. team time based battle system. FF X has a team vs. team turn based battle system. FF XII has a free roaming battle system that is also time based. They all have amazing stories, though. (from Your_Darkest_angel) Final Fantasy IX is the most simple game. FFX would also be a good starter game. they are more straight foward. FFIX
