What are some good hints to give your boyfriend that you want to marry him without scaring him or being too obvious?

You could drop a 10 lb. weight on most men with a message attached to it that reads, "You ain't getting the milk for free unless you buy the cow" and they still won't get it! LOL Many men are terrified of marriage, because the stats of divorce are at an all time high. We hear about the ones that don't make it, but many do. I have been happily married for 33 years, and all my friends my age have managed to hit 45 years. So, it can be done! Men also feel they will lose ALL their freedom, which, in a good marriage they shouldn't. There should be enough trust that they can go out with their male friends, or even go on a fishing trip once in awhile. It's difficult to drop hints here and there. If you look at rings in a jewelry store the guy either starts humming or walking down the street without you. Usually two people will discuss where their future is going, so perhaps you could start here by saying, "What do you want out of life? What's your hopes, dreams and plans." If he, by some miracle should mention settling down and having 2 - 5 kids, this is your chance to say, "When do you propose on getting started?" Don't be surprised if you get that look from him like he's been struck by a cattle prod. Most give "that look!" I was married before and divorced shy of 4 years. Then I met my husband I am with now. He was shy, and we got along great, but the subject of marriage didn't come up (on his part) but like you, it sure was on my mind. I don't believe in sticking around forever and each of us has to make committments in our lives so why should men be kept out of the equation. Finally, I made it plain and simple for my husband-to-be ... "you ain't getting the milk for free without buying this cow!" I said it in those very words and he almost fell over. Believe it or not he took the fastest road out of there and I didn't hear from him for 6 months! I was furious! I began to get use to the fact it wasn't to be and started dating again. Then my husband and I were obviously meant to meet again because he was the Best Man at a wedding and I was a Bridesmaid. He was pleasant to me, but showed now sign of interest in me. I was basically waiting for the reception to be over so I could go home and lick my wounds. That I did! Then a week later he called! This is what he said (if you can believe it) "I would like to start seeing you again, but I don't want to rush into things." I said, "Well sorry, that won't work because I have a date tonight and another one this Saturday and I never break committments." It was the truth. I heard a gasp come from him and so he set a date for the following week and I said, "Sorry, booked on that day too." I was actually going out with a girlfriend on that particular evening. He didn't know that. Well, the rest is history and he was so afraid of losing me that in 1 month he was on one knee and practically shoved that ring up my nose! LOL He's a great man, and I love him dearly, but sometimes, these men need a run for their money and I think you have one of these men. Make him work just to be with you! Good luck Marcy
