In some cases, rock videos have led to certain bands being labeled as 'rock bands', despite being more of a pop genre band at best. In other cases, rock videos have served to create a more serious tone when viewing their respective bands, leading back to the golden age of hard rock. TL:DR, Pro: serious tone Con: non-rock bands being called rock bands
Rock&pop bands like HIM are popular.
ZZ Top, The Zutons and Zebrahead are rock bands. ZOEgirl is an American Christian teen pop and pop rock band.

I am honestly not sure of any Hip Hop Boy bands since I am more of a J-pop/J-rock fan. BUT there are loads of Japanese boy bands. The most popular ones come from Johnny's Entertainment. Johnny's is all Vocal, not really instrumental. They always top the Oricon charts (Rankings of Japan single sales). Some groups under Johnny's include: *Arashi *NEWS *KAT-TUN (More Rockish based. There are some raps in some songs considering one member loves to rap) *Hey! Say! JUMP (Younger boys with more of a pop sound) *V6 *Kanjani8 and many more. If you mean boy bands as in rock bands constructed completely of boys, I am into: *alice nine *The GazettE *Dir en grey
