On April 15, 1961, John F. Kennedy authorizes the Bay of Pigs invasion. By August, President Kennedy is informed that the 29 August U-2 mission that Russian missiles are in Cuba. The Cuban Missile Crisis starts on April 15, 1961. The blockade of Cuba begins on October 23, 1961 after President Kennedy speaks to the American public about the crisis. The missiles are removed on October 28. Raúl Castro takes over the government as Fidel has an emergency operation and eventually is elected president. Fidel dies on November 25, 2016.
