actually, use of illicit drugs can cause paranoid delusions - making a typical anxiety attach even worse.

usually personal therapy (psychotherapy is usually best) used with medications (therapy WITH meds) which are now commonly prescribed by a family physician or physician's assistant, if a psychologist appointment is set too far in advance or is unavailable on a person's insurance. or if they lack insurance. medications prescribed are usually anti depressants and anti anxiety medications... a few examples are Paxil, Zoloft, or Prozac, with Paxil (generic paroxetine) being mentioned as a very good anti anxiety medication as well as an overall treatment of the underlying depression, (often associated with anxiety disorders.) Anxiety medications include Ativan, Librium, Tranxene, and Xanax.

the combination of medications and therapy are almost universally accepted as better treatment (of course on a case by case basis, every patient is different) than medication or therapy alone.

therapy + med/meds = better patient

the psychotherapy i mentioned can also be provided by a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) if a MD or PhD is out of reach. (in many cases seeing a social worker is all that is needed). i do not mean to insinuate seeing a social worker is bad. in many cases, Social Workers can be more in tuned to the patient on a personal level than an MD would be. or, some MD's are extremely good with therapy - like the patient with anxiety, the entire treating medical staff have a vast array of experience and skills. some people are just not people persons. sorry this is such a long entry. i really hope it helps. (i am not suggesting any of the medications i mentioned are better than any others your personal health care provider may prescribe on a patient by patient basis) bink182

Are there any ADHD medications out there other than Vyvanse adderall dexidrene Strattera Ritalin and Concerta that don't exacerbate one's anxiety levels?

Strattera will cause the most anxiety exacebations among those with pre-existing undiagnosed anxiety disorders due to its potentiation of of the nor-adrenergic receptors in the brain. This is based on both an intellectual understanding of rudimentary pharmacology and personal experience. To answer the question initially asked, if a person diagnosed with ADHD by a medical professional, then the said person NEEDS to also reveal that they mey also have an anxiety disorder. Don't feel bad! A great percentage of diagnosed peolple with ADHD have many concommitment issues, anxiety certainly leads the list! So, by treating the anxiety issue is not a mutually exclusive option to also treating the ADHD!
