What are some reasons why many ex witnesses gave up being witnesses and some start disliking the witnesses?

People have left the Jehovah's Witnesses for a variety of reasons and through a variety of circumstances. Various of these have even written books in order to help others with similar experiences and possibly help also those who are not Jehovah's Witnesses to better understand that organization. Two people who have done this are William J Schnell who wrote 'Thirty Years a Watchtower Slave' (Baker, Grand Rapids 1971) and Ted Dencher who wrote 'Why I Left Jehovah's Witnesses.'

For Schnell, it appears that he found his life as a believer to be destroyed by his time in the JW organization and sought to leave for his own spiritual good. This is how he describes it in the forward of his book:

"By the Lord's grace I am a Christian. I was found by God in my tender youth. Early in life I was inveigled to join the Watchtower Organization, and subsequently became totally enslaved to it. As my spiritual life ebbed, I tried desperately to come free. Each attempt only resulted in deeper slavery. Twice I thought I had come free, only to backslide into its pit. But now, again, I am free.

By the Lord's grace I came free when He lifted me up from a night of prayer, and when I became so agitated and alive once again spiritually that I made a vow unto the Lord. That night I came free!"

Ted Dencher, after having been actively involved for over ten years came to realize that Jesus Christ had been essentially 'dethroned' by Jehovah's Witness' theology. He thus felt a spiritual need for salvation and this ultimately led to his reignation from the organization. "By the end of February 1957 I had seen enough. I reviewed the time I had spent with the organization. Ten years of all kinds of work - mental and physical - and for what? Now I could see the futility of it all! I saw Jehovah's Witnesses come and go! They went as they came - unsaved. What had they gained? Nothing. Same with me."

Dencher eventually found Christ and ended up with a ministry to reach Jehovah's Witnesses for Christ by seeking to encourage dialogue with Christians.

Other individuals have left the religion of Jehovah's Witnesses because they felt could not, for various reasons live up to he standards set out by the organisation in line with the bible. For example, a vast majority leave because they wish to (or have) committed fornication and wish to continue to do so. Since, sex outside of the boundaries of marriage is violation of a bible law any wishing to engage in such conduct have to leave the organisation.

Some individuals, such as during the war years, have complied with government orders to engage in killing their christian brothers and sisters and others such as Jews. While the vast majority of Jehovah's Witnesses refused to engage in Hitlers War efforts for example, some chose to do so and left the Jehovah's Witnesses religion that took a firm anti war stand and refused to support the Nazi regime.

Some individuals have left Jehovah's Witnesses because they disagreed with the principle in Math 28 verses 19 and 20 where Jesus sent his disciples out to publically preach to non-believers. They feel that they no longer want to engage in a work that requires they preach from "door to door" as did the first century Christians (see Act chapter 20 verse 20).

So an inability to live up to the elevated moral code (refraining from sex outside marriage, not smoking etc) a desire to conform to government requirements that violate gods divine law and an unwillingness to publically preach the bible are three of the many reasons why individuals choose to leave the organisation of Jehovah's Witnesses.

And of course some leave because they realise that this is a SECT and they have been brainwashed, but as original reply was by a jw and they clearly are brainwashed this was left out. JWs would brand these as apostates and shun them.
