The social structure of the Roman Republic was class orientated. The patricians and plebeians made up then nobility with the equites as the middle class. The proletariat were the rest of the free citizens, followed by the freedmen and slaves.

∙ 10y agoThere were three social orders (Latin, ordo) in Rome: the patricians, who were an aristocracy of owners of large landed estates and politicians; the equites (cavalrymen) which was an entrepreneurial order of bankers, money lenders, and investors in shipping and mining; and the plebeians, the lower order of craftsmen, labourers, market stall stall orders, peddlars, and the unemployed or underemployed poor.
