A couple of items to address here: The state of Tennessee recognizes permits from any state, so you have a currently valid gun permit from any state, you can carry legally in Tennessee. You can carry a knife in Tennessee without a permit, but there is a blade length maximum of 4 inches unless the knife is being used for some utilitarian purpose. In order to carry a baton, you need a baton training certification card. If you are referring to guns, you must have a gun permit. If you do have a gun permit, there is no specific requirement to carry the gun concealed. However, it's worth mentioning that attitudes vary in different parts of the state. If you carry a gun openly while you're in Memphis, I doubt you will have a problem as long as you have a valid permit, but if you carry openly in the eastern part of the state such as Knoxville, you probably will have a problem. Even though it is not illegal, the Knoxville police are known to detain (and in several cases that I know of personally, arrest) people carrying openly, even though it isn't legal.
