President Kennedy admitted to lack of missile gap unlike Eisenhower. He said that the US was way ahead of the Soviets in the developing missiles. This made Khrushchev (The Soviet leader) look bad. And this angers Cuba a lot especially, after our failed attempt with the Bay of Pigs. Castro starts to buddy up with the Soviets a lot more. Khrushchev doesn't want to see the US take Cuba down. So he offers to arm Castro with weapons. The US had the Soviet Union surrounded with missile sites and the Soviets wanted at least one site near the US. If they could get Cuba they would have their "one place". A U2 planes discovered installation sites being built in Cuba by the soviets. Kennedy called together the National Security Council, DOD, etc. to discuss what to do with this. We came up with three options. 1)Invade Cuba-Bay of pigs was a failure. 2) Air Strike- were afraid if we did do that ,t hey would shoot our planes3) Leave it alone. No one was really satisfied with those three option so we decided to Quarantine AKA Blockade Cuba. The Cuban Missile Crisis scared everyone to death; we were on the verge of nuclear war. In 1963 the US and the Soviet Union Signed a nuclear Test Ban Treaty which banned the testing of atomic weapons. A hotline was also set up between Moscow and Washington D.C.

∙ 11y agoThe Cuban missle crisis of 1962 was between the USA and the USSR had many key events and features. One of the first key features of the Cuban missle crisis is when Khrushchev orderd USSR troops after cutting a deal with Castro to place nuclear missiles into Cuba incase the USA attempted to invade Cuba in early 1962, this all happend after the bay of pigs shortly before this happend. The USSR had also done this as they thought that president John F Kennedy was weak and wouldnt be able to do anything about the place ment of the missiles in Cuba.
The next key feature of the Cuban missile crisis in 1962 was when the U-2 spy plane flew over Cuba on September 5th taking birds eye view pictures of the missile baseis on the island. These pictures were regulally taken up until October 14th when president Kennedy had seen enough and relised he needed to do something about the missles in Cuba.
The final key feature of the Cuban missile crisis in 1962 is when the USA on the 22nd of October decided to surrond Cuba with boats not allowing anyone to enter or leave Cuba, this was called the Naval blockade of Cuba. This was the best option Kennedy had as this way he avoided confrentation with the USSR and this was also seen as not an act of war making the USA seem non voilent.
