You need to check for and change the the disk quota limit and the disk quota warning level. Disk quota limit will set your preferred disk space limit, where as the disk quota warning level will enable a warning system that tells you when you are getting close to exceeding your disk quota limit.

A "quota" is a set minimum or maximum of something. In the case of Linux, it usually refers to a user's allotment of disk space. Users can be limited to a certain amount of storage space to prevent them from using all the resources of the drive.
