There are not two basic color genes for horses, but there are two basic pigments: red (phaeomelanin) and black (eumelanin). A horse who displays red pigment will be chestnut, and a horse who displays black pigment will be black. All horses carry both red and black pigment. Bay horses have a gene called the Agouti modifier. It pushes black pigment away from the body of the horse, leaving the mane, tail, and legs black.

The three basic horse colors are black, bay, and chestnut. All other horse colors are modifications of these colors.

What color will you get if you breed a liver chestnut to a bay?

That all depends on genetics and what genes the 2 horses have. Cannot give you an exact answer unless the horses are homozygous for the color gene they have. You can breed 2 horses of the same color and make a completely different color.

How many genes control eye color and fur in a white tiger?

What is there to know about buckskins?

Buckskin is strictly a color, not a breed. Some interesting facts about the color itself: 1: Buckskin is created by a single copy of the cream gene acting on a bay base color. 2: There is a color registry for buckskin colored horses. 3: An old wives tale states that buckskin colored horses are tougher than other colored horses (untrue but fun to know). 4: Buckskin is often confused with Dun, they are separate genes. 5: Buckskin can range from a very pale washed out color known as buttermilk to an almost black color with sooty dapples. 6: Any breed that posses both bay and cream genes can create a buckskin colored horse.

Is eye color a inheritance?

eye colour is due to polygenic inheritance. 2 genes specify for the green/blue pigments and 2 or more genes encode for the brown pigment. the brown genes mask the blue/green genes. eye colour is purely genetic as it is not subject to environmental influences. it was originally thought that eye colour was controlled by 2 genes, but since the human genome project , it is now known that many more genes are involved.

How do you give water to your horses on HorseIsle 2?

To water or feed your horses on HorseIsle 2, click the "Horses" tab on the toolbar in the middle of your screen. Then click to "VIEW" your horses how you'd like them sorted - this dictates the order your horses appear in to others as well as just you. Then, click to view the horse you'd like to care for, and hit the "FEED" button underneath their basic information (name, breed, color, gender, ranks). Then click the "Consume" button next to the pail of water or food item you would like to feed your horse.

Can you get perlino with a chestnut stallion a perlino mare?

No, If the stallion is a true Chestnut this is not possible. Because you would need to breed two horses together that carry at least 1 cream gene each. The Perlino has 2 cream genes and so will give her offspring one cream gene 100% of the time but the chestnut does not have one. The possible outcome of the resulting foal would be one of three colors, depending on the genetic makeup of each horse, A Palomino, A Buckskin, or possibly a Smoky black. It is easier to understand basic horse color genetics if you think of horses as three basic colors; Black, Bay and Chestnut. All other colors including gray being a modification of those three.(There are studies being done regarding Brown but this would really confuse this issue) In order to breed a Perlino you must understand what a Perlino is genetically. A perlino is a double dilute of a Bay. A Bay horse carrying 2 cream genes that modifies it's body color. A bay horse that carries 1 dilute or cream gene would be Buckskin. Therefore we can go further and say a Cremello is a double dilute of a Chestnut horse (chestnut that carries 2 cream genes). A Chestnut that carries 1 dilute/cream gene would be palomino. A Smoky Cream is a black horse that carries 2 dilution/cream genes. A Black that carries 1 would be smoky black (looks like a black bay typically) Today there are labs that will give you the genetic color of your horse for a nominal fee (around $50) From this information you can judge with a great level of certainty what colors are possible from that horse when bred to other horses. One such lab is UC Davis. There are many articles on the web that can go even further into color genetics. Breaking the horse's color down into Agouti and Extension genotypes. With some practice and basic understanding of this genetic formula for horse coat color, breeders can know instead of guess the possible colors of the foals they produce. This has been an invaluable tool to breeding colorful horses.

What does it mean to have hybrid-brown eye genes?

Eye color is dictated by your genes, having hybrid brown means that your genes are Bb (i think eye color is the letter b) or whatever letter it is. It just means that either 1)one of your parents has brown eyes and the other has blue eyes or 2)both have brown eyes and their parents were in the first situation
